“We all are learning, modifying, or destroying ideas all the time. Rapid destruction of your ideas when the time is right is one of the most valuable qualities you can acquire. You must force yourself to consider arguments on the other side. — Charles T. Munger” "The notion that the most outlandish thoughts could pay for your existence, the most bizarre thoughts you may have had in 1994 on an Ecstasy tab can turn into money, which turns into houses, which turns into cat food. It’s the Yukon in our brain, it’s a gold rush, it’s all sitting there, and it’s worth money.”
"Your head's like mine, like all our heads; big enough to contain every god and devil there ever was. Big enough to hold the weight of oceans and the turning stars. Whole universes fit in there! But what do we choose to keep in this miraculous cabinet? Little broken things, sad trinkets that we play with over and over. The world turns our key and we play the same little tune again and again and we think that tune's all we are." — Grant Morrison "I don't like answering to other people's philosophies. I don't have any philosophy, I just believe in stuff. Either I believe in something or I don't. Like, I believe in the Rolling Stones but not in the Dave Clark Five. There's nothing philosophic about it. Whenever I'm linked with a movement, it pisses me off. (1976 Penthouse interview)" — Patti Smith "Most artists are brought to their vocation when their own nascent gifts are awakened by the work of a master. That is to say, most artists are converted to art by art itself. Finding one's voice isn't just an emptying and purifying oneself of the words of others but an adopting and embracing of filiations, communities, and discourses. Inspiration could be called inhaling the memory of an act never experienced. Invention, it must be humbly admitted, does not consist in creating out of void but out of chaos. Any artist knows these truths, no matter how deeply he or she submerges that knowing. " — Jonathan Lethem "I have lots of things to teach you now, in case we ever meet,
concerning the message that was transmitted to me under a pine tree in North Carolina on a cold winter moonlit night. It said that Nothing Ever Happened, so don't worry. It's all like a dream. Everything is ecstasy, inside. We just don't know it because of our thinking-minds. But in our true blissful essence of mind is known that everything is alright forever and forever and forever. Close your eyes, let your hands and nerve-ends drop, stop breathing for 3 seconds, listen to the silence inside the illusion of the world, and you will remember the lesson you forgot, which was taught in immense milky way soft cloud innumerable worlds long ago and not even at all. It is all one vast awakened thing. I call it the golden eternity. It is perfect. We were never really born, we will never really die. It has nothing to do with the imaginary idea of a personal self, other selves, many selves everywhere: Self is only an idea, a mortal idea. That which passes into everything is one thing. It's a dream already ended. There's nothing to be afraid of and nothing to be glad about. I know this from staring at mountains months on end. They never show any expression, they are like empty space. Do you think the emptiness of space will ever crumble away? Mountains will crumble, but the emptiness of space, which is the one universal essence of mind, the vast awakenerhood, empty and awake, will never crumble away because it was never born." Selected Letters 1957-1969 and is a letter he wrote to his first wife, Edie in 1957." — Jack Kerouac (The Portable Jack Kerouac) Rituals matter.
They are everything, because they make you, you. Those daily rituals that we do truly define our lives. They make up our life. What we are at this moment is a reflection of all the decisions we have made or not made, and of all the daily habits that we have always done. If you have the habit of working out every day, your life snd your body will reflect that choice. If you meditate fifteen minutes every morning and every evening it changes how you think and how you act, and it changes your life. What you do will literally rewire your brain, and how you think is a reflection of what you do. What you do daily matters. You control what you do, and you control what you think. your habits need to be conscious, it takes effort, it takes time, it tskes thought, but it will transform your life. If you choose what you want to do, and you decide what nd how you want to be, and you want it enough to build your life around it, you will become it. You model on the successful, you think the thoughts they think, how that type of person thinks, model your thoughts and control your thoughts, you lesrn those successful habits, and you will become that person. Pick your rituals carefully. Do not use negative terms, focus on th positive efforts, those things that you do that make your life better. Eliminate the nonessential, and become what matters the most to you. D "Judge me for my own merits, or lack of them, but do not look upon me as a mere appendage to this great general or that great scholar, this star that shines at the court of France or that famed author. I am in my own right a whole person, responsible to myself alone for all that I am, all that I say, all that I do. it may be that there are metaphysicians and philosophers whose learning is greater than mine, although I have not met them. Yet, they are but frail humans, too, and have their faults; so, when I add the sum total of my graces, I confess I am inferior to no one." Émilie du Châtelet "I compare myself with my former self, not with others. Not only that, I tend to compare my current self with the best I have been, which is when I have been midly manic. When I am my present "normal" self, I am far removed from when I have been my liveliest, most productive, most intense, most outgoing and effervescent. In sort, for myself, I am a hard act to follow." — Kay Redfield Jamison |
